A sleek, modern overhaul of a lakefront screened pool — seamless flush coping, ivory shell-stone pavers, a reimagined square spa with a pebble spillway, and a fresh white finish, all built to shed root damage and minimize upkeep.
On a screened lanai overlooking the lake, this pool had been undermined, literally. Roots from two mature oaks had crept beneath the cage and through the joints of the old deck, buckling the pavers and degrading the surface over time. The renovation rebuilds the space from the ground up as a sleek, modern retreat designed to last.
To stop the damage at its source, we cut the deck perimeter and installed a 24-inch root barrier, protecting the new hardscape from the encroaching oaks for years to come. The failing pavers and old pool deck were removed entirely, along with the chipped, cracking waterline tile.
The new surface is Artistic Pavers Shellock in ivory — a clean, contemporary 24-by-24 format that echoes the shell and limestone tones native to the Sarasota coast. The pavers run seamlessly to the water's edge with no visible coping: the bullnose was shaved from the chamfered edge to round it off, so deck and pool read as one continuous plane.
The spa was reimagined to match. The original round shape became a crisp square hot tub with a round center — a deliberate play on the right angles of the pavers — finished with a beach-pebble spillway in complementary beige and ivory. A simple 6-inch square waterline tile carries the palette throughout; fewer, larger tiles mean less grout, less maintenance, and less opportunity for leaks.
Every detail was refined for a clean, low-upkeep finish. The deck drain was lowered and concealed while still venting through a discreet quarter-inch opening, and the skimmer was hidden beneath a paver-matched lid rather than the usual plastic cover that yellows in the sun. Two new landings, in the same ivory pavers, extend the finished look to each door entrance outside the cage. Finally, the pool was drained, cleaned, and coated in crisp white epoxy for a complete, refreshed transformation.
The result is a pool that feels modern yet timeless — grounded in the natural materials of the region, framed by the screened lanai and open water beyond.
