Holmes Beach Residence
Holmes Beach, Florida

A coastal-modern landscape for a Holmes Beach home built around privacy and outdoor living — a secluded nature-walk arrival, a fire pit and pool lounge, an outdoor kitchen beneath a louvered pergola, and a shell-and-limestone material palette.
This Holmes Beach property called for a cohesive coastal-modern landscape to complement planned improvements to the home, including facade enhancements and fresh paint. With adjacent lots for sale and a school at the rear, privacy and enclosure were the driving objectives. The goal was a secluded outdoor environment that feels intentional, comfortable, and well-defined. The existing structure on pilings is enclosed to create a garage, anchoring the composition.
The experience begins at the driveway and transitions along the left side of the home through a secluded nature-walk inspired by a quiet coastal woodland. The path weaves through layered native and tropical plantings in a soft, immersive sequence that gradually reveals the rear yard.
At the back of the house, the composition opens to a fire pit with an adjacent open lawn for passive use and light recreation. Flanking the lawn, a dining area seats eight, followed by an outdoor kitchen and seating space beneath a louvered pergola — the heart of the entertaining zone.
Nearby, a pool-side area for chaise lounges and a spiral staircase connect the upper deck to the pool below, where access is integrated beneath the deck structure. Just to the left, an outdoor shower serves the pool and entertaining areas.
Beyond this core zone, a small garden with a water feature and gate offers a secondary destination that links back to the front yard. From the gate, a path meanders through the front landscape and returns to the driveway along a native coastal planting scheme that reinforces both the architecture and the surrounding barrier-island environment.
Throughout, a refined coastal material palette: shell, limestone, and oolite pavers, with crisp aluminum slat privacy screening that ties the design together into a private, resort-like retreat built for the way the owners live outdoors.
