The Enclave

Stretching 1.1 miles along Palmer Boulevard, the frontage for The Enclave at the Villages of Pinetree buffers three Sarasota subdivisions: Western Pine Circle, Fraser Pine Boulevard, and Pinyon Pine Drive. Years of storm damage and demanding upkeep had taken their toll, so our plan set out to revitalize the entire corridor with a resilient, native-focused planting scheme that refines the community's established look while making it far easier to maintain.

The foundational viburnum hedge, battered by storms and neglect, anchors the design. Dead and dying sections are replaced with viburnum, clusia, or Simpson's stopper, restoring continuity and building in long-term durability.

The corridor's signature rhythm, an A-B pattern of five weeping yaupon holly trees followed by three weeping bottlebrush, gets a thoughtful, storm-hardy update. Struggling or missing bottlebrushes give way to resilient dahoon holly, while buttonwood trees step in for the weeping yaupon holly. Beneath these canopies, at the top of the bank where the terrain levels out, vibrant understory plants selected for color and texture add life while keeping irrigation and maintenance to a minimum.

On the sloped bank itself, plantings prone to mulch slippage are removed and the areas resodded for a clean, low-maintenance solution that holds up over time.

The entrances are where the design makes its strongest statement. At each one, durable, colorful plantings stabilize the slopes around the twin entry signs, framing them against existing royal palms and ligustrum while screening utilities for a polished arrival. In the medians, tropical succulents and bromeliads bring bold color and texture, turning each gateway into an inviting focal point that draws the eye.

Blending native species, storm-resilient material, and strategic placement, the finished corridor strengthens the Enclave's identity, balancing beauty, function, and the land's natural conditions from end to end.
